The Sun Dog
Allow ourself to introduce ourself. You may have noticed the icon that sits above our name, California Cowboy, and we think we owe you an explanation. Atop California Cowboy sits the Sun Dog. The story and inspiration behind our Sun Dog runs deep. Scientifically, a Sun Dog, or parhelion, is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates the appearance of bright spots of light in the sky, on either side of the sun. Frequently one can also observe a halo or luminous ring around the sun. The same phenomenon will occur when wearing California Cowboy: our style will create halo of interest around you.
The etymology of the word remains a bit of a mystery, and the good ol’ Oxford English Dictionary describes it as being “of obscure origin.” We’re borrowing from the past and removing some of this obscurity. California Cowboy brings the Sun Dog phenomenon to light, not only through our threads, but also through the experience of wearing them. We’ll help create your halo of interest with style and experience. This is why we like to include our Conversation Stopper cards with all your orders. It’s not just what you wear, it’s what you do in it that makes you king.
Funny enough, Sun Dogs also happen to be most visible when the sun is closest to the horizon – at dawn or at dusk, two of our favorite times of day. It’s always happy hour somewhere.
